Yachtsman's Guide to the Virgin Islands, No 13, 1997
Published in Spiral-bound by Tropical Island Publishers (July, 1997)
Author: Meredith H. Fields
Average review score:

Great guide
We have several copies of this over the years. Our first copy from 1986 we still use as we have annotated it with dive sites, nav info etc...

These books are just about the same as having local knowledge. You can stare at a chart forever, but you won't get the detail that you find in these hand drawn maps and local nav knowledge that you can use.

As with all of these guides, they only show you the anchorages that MOST people go to. There are many others that you have to be a chart wiz to figure out (and I'm not going to tell....).

Must Have for any BVI Sailor's Library
This was our first BVI Sailing guide and is still one of our most used. It is an excellent resource with maps, great insider's tips, and recomendations. The best part are its maps which cleary show where mooring balls, channel markers, and other navigational aids are lcoated in the most popular anchorages. We highly recommend this book to all who sail the BVI.

Was there
I was in 7th grade in Aptos, CA when the Loma Prieta earthquake hit Northern California. I didn't remember a whole lot about that time, so I bought this book to refresh my memory.

25 Bicycle Tours on Cape Cod and the Islands: Cranberry Bogs, Marshes, Sand Dunes, Lighthouses, and the Ever-Present Sea
Published in Paperback by Countryman Pr (May, 1996)
Authors: Kevin Jeffrey, Susan Milton, and Nan Jeffrey
Average review score:

For the best bike routes on Cape Cod, this is the book.
Cape Cod is perhaps one of the best places to bike in New England. The rolling hills, the stunning views of the Atlantic and the jewel-like kettle-hole ponds in its interior sections make it a bicicyclists paradise. During 2 weeks in late springs several years ago, I used the bike routes in this book alone to make my way from the upper Cape near Sandwich down to the Outer Cape into Truro and Provincetown. I was not disappointed. The maps in combination with written directions offer just enough detail so that riders are always on the right track. And vista after vista was exactly what this rider was hoping for. The routes in this book helped me to come away with an intimate knowledge of Cape Cod and too many fond memories to count. It's obvious that the folks who wrote this book rode these routes time and time again, perfecting them and finally compiling them into this incredible guide to the most stunning bike routes on Cape Cod. If you want to get to know Cape Cod better, or if you're just looking for a variety of top-notch biking experiences in Eastern Massachusetts, this is the place and this is the book!

Account of the Black Charaibs in the Island of st Vincents
Published in Hardcover by Frank Cass & Co (April, 1971)
Author: William Young
Average review score:

HONDURAS GARAFINA VIA ST VINCENTS AND AFRICA
This is the first book I have ever read which speaks to the origin of both St. Vincents Island and what today we call Honduras. The majesty of precolonial East African people lives on through the African slaves who were washed ashore on St. Vincents and lived to grow and thrive. So successful were they, that the mighty English military had to physically capture and deport them to Honduras, where they again grew and thrived.

The descendents of those very people now populate much of today's Honduras and St. Vincents Island. They fashioned their own language, which has survived and is now known as garifanu. This book is must reading for those who are serious about the real Central American History.

The Adirondacks: Wild Island of Hope (Creating the North American Landscape)
Published in Paperback by Johns Hopkins Univ Pr (August, 2002)
Authors: Gary A. Randorf and Bill McKibben
Average review score:

Eloquent Book!
Gary Randolf has done a remarkable job of splicing natural history, Americans and psychical beauty into one great book. Traveling through time and seasons, the reader feels the words and witnesses the beauty of the Adirondack mountains. It's not just full of incredible landscape shots (both subtle and grand) but is matched with a moving narrative that warns us this island paradise will always be in danger.

Time for the world to take heed, especially in a period of history when our government seems to feel that acid rain is so irreversible here, that we can actually lower emissions standards? That the damage is already done? It's not too late, and Mr. Randorf reminds us with every page.

Adventure in Literature Treasure Island
Published in Paperback by Harcourt (January, 1990)
Author: Harcourt Brace Jovanovich
Average review score:

Treasure Island by an 11 year old
When Jim Hawkins finds a treasure map, he can never imagine what adventures await him. He meets pirates, and castaways, and saves the honest hands of the ship, Hispaniola. I think this book was great. The description was wonderful! I felt as if I were really there. I did not want to put down the book. I think kids ages 10 and up would like this. The language the pirates use is confusing.

Adventure on Treasure Island : Playmobil Play Stickers Series
Published in Paperback by Readers Digest (September, 1998)
Authors: Tim Healey and Reader's Digest
Average review score:

Swashbuckling fun for storytime and playtime
This set contains a story featuring characters from Playmobil's pirate toy line, reusable stickers and a fold out island scene for acting out the story or creating new ones. Despite the pirate motif, there is no violence in the story. Two competing bands of pirates vie for golden treasure. The conflict is resolved happily for all but one mean pirate. The set comes in a plastic tote and would be great for travel. Try writing down your child's stories as illustrated by the story board and narrated to you.

This book is an excellent resource for exploring the Magdalen Islands. These little known islands are one of the best kept travel secrets in Canada.
